Digestive and liver problems are common, and treatable
Acidity that keeps returning, bloating, a change in bowel habits, blood in the stool, or a report that says "fatty liver" are some of the most common health worries in Delhi households. Many are minor. Some are early signs of problems that are much easier to treat when caught in time. The challenge is knowing which is which.
Our gastro and liver service brings together the tests and treatments you are most likely to need, in one hospital in Burari. You don't have to travel across the city for each step.
What we help with
Stomach and food pipe
Long-standing acidity and heartburn, ulcers, H. pylori infection, difficulty swallowing and upper GI bleeding. The key test is an upper GI endoscopy, which lets the doctor look directly inside and take painless biopsies.
Bowel
Rectal bleeding, long-lasting diarrhoea or constipation, a change in stool shape, and polyps. Colonoscopy examines the whole large bowel, and polyps can often be removed during the same test. If the cause is piles or a fissure, our proctology team can treat it.
Liver
Fatty liver is now extremely common, even in people who don't drink alcohol. A FibroScan tells us whether the fat has started to cause scarring, which guides how closely you need to be followed. We also treat liver abscesses, a condition still common in India, usually with medicines or a simple ultrasound-guided drainage.
Surgery when it is needed
For problems that need an operation, such as a perforated ulcer or bowel obstruction, our surgical team offers GI surgery, laparoscopic where suitable. For gallbladder stones, hernia and appendix, see laparoscopic surgery.
Abdominal tuberculosis
TB of the abdomen can look like many other diseases. We combine scans, colonoscopy and, when needed, diagnostic laparoscopy to reach a clear diagnosis, and guide you on free TB medicines through the national programme.
How a typical visit works
1. Consultation. Bring all previous reports, a list of medicines and, if possible, a note of when your symptoms started and what makes them better or worse. The doctor will examine you and explain the likely causes.
2. The right tests, not every test. Many problems can be clarified with blood tests at the hospital laboratory and an ultrasound. Endoscopy, colonoscopy or FibroScan are added only when they will change your treatment.
3. A clear plan. Most digestive and liver problems are treated with medicines, diet and lifestyle changes. When a procedure or operation is needed, you'll be told why, what the options are, and what recovery looks like.
4. Follow-up. Liver conditions and ulcers in particular need follow-up to make sure treatment is working. We'll tell you when to come back and what to watch for in the meantime.
Warning signs you should not ignore
- Vomiting blood, or black, tarry stools
- Yellow eyes or skin
- Difficulty swallowing that is getting worse
- Unexplained weight loss or anaemia
- Sudden severe belly pain, or a swollen belly with no stool or gas
If you have any of these, call 93196 62944 or come to the hospital. We are open 24×7.
Simple habits for a healthier gut and liver
Eat regular meals with plenty of vegetables, dal and whole grains; limit sugar, maida and fried snacks; drink safe, boiled or filtered water; keep painkiller use to a minimum; avoid alcohol and tobacco; and stay active every day. If you have diabetes, good sugar control protects your liver too.
